This is a blog about Medical Imaging. As someone working on Medical Imaging for some years and who enjoys reading blogs, it seemed only natural that I start my own blog. Know your images is a blog directed to researchers and professionals in Medical Imaging, but also to all researchers out there and the general public.
Breast tomosynthesis is a 3D technique, which I believe will change the screening of breast cancer. This technique is able to produce 3D images of the breast, instead of 2D projection images available in mammography. 3D imaging can unfold small lesions, such as micro-calcification and give a better understanding of the 3D shape of the lesion. Furthermore, it is possible that in the future compression will be less than in the mammography and dose will be comparable.
There has been some discussion in Europe about funding science. Europe has always invested less money and less strategically in Science than USA, and we are losing our best brains... Gottfried Schatz, a prize winning biologist, which has worked in Europe and USA, has called European funding MESS: Mediocre European Science System. Although I think he is being too radical about the science system, he might prove to be correct in the future if investment in science stops. Recently, I came across this webpage http://investinscience.eu/category/videos/ , where researchers and other can post videos to promote science in Europe. Without much effort, they are better than the infamous videos that the European Comission made:
